Relax and Smile by Kid-Apocalypse Relax and Smile by Kid-Apocalypse
100 Themes Challenge, #25 "Trouble Lurking"

Listening to Hania's songs on Newgrounds way too much. Took the title from a song that makes me think of Van so much it hurts.

"Forget the lies
The brutal indecisive choices
The compromise
50/50? In your dreams

Try to let go
The beatings hurt but now you're better
Buy a shotgun, go in style
Relax and smile"
-- [link]

I hope it's not too dark, I already had to fix that twice.

Good light, but the song is freakily similar to that guy earlier this month who went murder-suicide.

:thanks: ....that's whooshed over my head. But Van is pretty much skipping on the edge of a very tall cliff, you have to admit.

Had to turn up the brightness on my screen but it was worth it.

I was pretty sure it would be... But I won't change it unless I need to. Thank you! ...did I do alright with the perspective on his not-pointing arm? I couldn't get to a proper mirror, so I had to wing it.

Yeah, the arm is fine! I suppose winging it will ever be part of the art scene for a lot of us anyway. :D

:phew: I think my fakey colors helped mask any mistakes, too, so that's helpful. :D But I'm thinking of recoloring it with a more solid, brighter medium...

Cool! Looking forward to what you do with it!
I'm learning a new technique in Adobe 7 Photoshop, myself...I'm amazed at what I DON'T know...the current results are pretty simple compared to the tutorial I'm studying, and they're working with the latest version of Adobe, but some of the techniques are the same, anyway.

:D What tutorial are you using? I find that nearly every time I try a good one, mine still comes out.....different. ^^;

It's the tutorial they have written up in the Photoshop Creative magazine I purchased in SLC Border's bookshop.
Yeah, I never expect myne to come out the same as theirs. Right now, I'm trying to learn how to use the pen with the "Subtract from Shape Area" mode.
Their's is pretty complicated...myne's pretty simplistic...you'll have a chance to see it as soon as I finish it...but I like what it does. :)

Ah... Heh, I think I mean "different" as in, "It looks like I completely made that up, doesn't it? Oh well." :D

Yay. :excited: I just hate when they say you need to use 30+ layers for the shading alone...

Thanks. I have a pretty bright monitor, so I have to remember that other people don't, that's why I bring up brightness/contrast sometimes.

No you got it just right. To tell the truth, it reminds me of old paintings depicting the freedom of black slaves I had seen before. A compliment, to be sure ;p

*shrug* Just the way you colored yours and the theme and all made me think that. Am I weird for it?

When did I use the word 'weird'? All I said was that I didn't expect it. Next stop Conclusions, all you have to do is jump.

...You really like to just assume things, don't you? Forget it. I can stop talking now and let you imagine the rest of the conversation, because you obviously already started doing that.
