I think the main reason why I have problems with proportion is that I either have short arms or long legs. So when I use myself as a model, it's all screwed up.

I have short legs, and I definitely have problems drawing those at the right lengths... IMO, the most important thing to get right is the torso--length of arms and legs and even head size are easier to overlook.

Helps if you have general measurement rules to go by... [link] helped me a lot, and I still refer to it sometimes.
